I live in MD and have the interlock ignition in my car. I havent had a drink since it was put in but my genious self used mouthwash shortly before getting in my car and a failed reading came up. Also when i first had it put in my car i had taken Nyquill for a cold and failed the test(i had to move my car out of a driveway, i wasnt driving anywhere) but rinsed my mouth out and passed 10 min later. I am on probation and get urine tested for that AND also a alcohol counsiling program that i am in and they have all been clean, so does anyone know if this will be a violation of my probation?

  1. No, but it will raise questions.

My suggestion is to switch your mouth wash and medicine to non-alcohol type and also to bring the bottle of Nyquill when you make your visit.  Of course, alcoholics are known to abuse alcohol containing mouthwash, medication, etc, etc, etc, so if you do this too often, it will raise a big flag altogether.  If you have a doctor's note or recipt stating you visited him for cold, that would be a great help.

  2. could be.  contact your probation officer immediately to tell of the dilemma.     you might have to go in for a breathalyzer test or they might just make a note of it.     it will be worse for you if you just ignore that it happened and when you are asked to explain the reason you failed, it probably won't be as believable.
