What will happen to a video signal if I plug in a DVI-D jack into a DVI-I socket?

Or, what will happen if I plug in a DVI-D 18+1 pin jack into a DVI-D 24+1 socket?

In other words, since obviously you cant plug something in if there is not enough holes in the socket, but what if there is too many? Do you lose signal quality? Or is it just supported in the pins that you do have in the jack?

I myself just learned a little about this stuff tonight so I can hook up my projector, but if you do not know what the difference between DVI-D and DVI-I etc, please do not try and answer this one!!!

  1. I believe they are backwards computable.  If it fits, then it shouldn't hurt.
