One of my friends is one of these flight attendants. What will happen? I hope he isn't laid off or anything...

  1. Delta isn't laying off anyone. It is a part of Delta & Air France's new partnership. That particular flight you are speaking of will be aboard an Air France aircraft as opposed to a Delta aircraft.

Your friend will not be laid off, I am positive that the JFK-CDG leg isn't the only flight that your friend has.

Delta has started, and is in the process of starting a number of new international routes out of the JFK hub. This includes re-routing certain flights with its code-share partners.

Bottom line, if your friend was able to bid and get the JFK-CDG route, your friend is just going to get to go to more exotic places. :-)

  2. They will bid and win their next most favorite route.

  3. Nothing will happen to him.  Flight attendants are not assigned a particular route or flight to work permanently.  Airlines employ a bid system for both pilots and flight attendants.  Each month, they bid on trips that they want to work for the upcoming month.  The airline then assigns them trips based on their seniority.  The more time you have worked at the airline, the more likely it will be that you will get the trips that you want.  The most junior people basically get stuck with whatever is left.  With the discontinuation of the JFK-CDG route, trips for future months will simply be altered accordingly, and the flight attendants that would have wanted to work this route will have to bid on something else.  Flight attendants and pilots do not get laid off or furloughed if a single route is discontinued.  They simply work any of the other flights that the airline operates.  So do not worry!  Your friend will still keep his job! :-)
