  1. Absolutley nothing. Yall jumping the gun here. Back up for a second and open your eyes.

Yes, BluRay won the HD war but it did not bring down the price of HDTV sets. To enjoy HD, you need both HDTV and BluRay. Right now, both can only be offered by those with incomes that do not match the MAJORITY of this world. I own 2 HD sets but I know plenty of people who don't own nor can afford just one. No studio is ready to be that dumb and leave out the majority.

  2. well, they're still going to be around, but chances are, they're going to be completely replaced.

still going to be around in that "cheap, bargain, etc" section

  3. create radiation

  4. Good news is that most Blu-ray players are equiped to play all DVD forms as well as Blu-ray so you won't have to throw out your entire DVD collection like you did your 8 tracks.  Some even play HD DVD as well.

  5. Can you spell "Beta"?

(Beta was Sony's entry into the video tape market)

  6. Wow what a downer, All the regular dvds I have will they play in a blue ray machine, any body know ?

  7. Yes, that's the expectation. The Blu-ray format has received broad support from the major movie studios as a successor to today's DVD format. In fact, seven of the eight major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) have released titles in the Blu-ray format. Many studios have also announced that they will begin releasing new feature films on Blu-ray Disc day-and-date with DVD, as well as a continuous slate of catalog titles every month.

However, the two formats (Blu-ray and DVD) will most likely co-exist for quite some time until HDTVs become more widespread.

  8. the same it happen to the vcr

  9. For the moment nothing much. It took DVD about 6 or 7 years to finally begin outselling VHS, but DVD will be harder to beat because people will have to buy a HDTV as well as a blu-ray player. DVD's will still be made, but they will gradually be phased out as time moves on. That's the way technology works, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

  10. By the time regular DVD is replaced there will be a new format to replace BluRay too. Electronics companies do not know when to quit, or at least slow down for awhile.

Cripes we have 9.1 receivers out there....For what? They have been around for about 4 or 5 years now.

I for one will stick with Regular DVD till Bluray is in the 9.99 to 14.99 price range.

  11. I imagine they'll fade away slowly like video tapes did. Movies will continue to be sold in both formats until Blue Ray players are cheap, everyone has HDTV and nobody wants the DVDs anymore. You'll still be able to buy a DVD player for some time to come like you can still buy a VCR today... or the Blue Ray players will play them...

  12. The same thing that happened to VHS?

  13. you wont see much differance in the next year, but as soon as the Blu-Ray players come down in price to the point they are affordable to most consumers there will be no need for DVD players anymore, but DVD's will still be produced for movies and shwos that do  not benefit from HD. like someone else said above, DVD's can still be played in a Blu-Ray player so people do not need to replace their entire collection like they had to do when VHS was replaced.

  14. well ill still be buying them since their prices are falling quickly. but it will probably still go strong as hd dvd and bluray players cost a buck!
