First, her name will get dropped from the rankings list. That means whoever is the next highest ranked player becomes #1 and everyone else moves up one place.

Second, the favorite to win the French Open this year is probably Ana Ivonovic from Serbia. She was a finalist last year, and lost to Justine Henin in the final. Now that Justine is retired she has become the favorite.

i think the favourites for roland garros would be sharapova, ivanavic, jankobic and the williams sisters. but hopefully it will be bartoli!!!

i think henin was a great player with a really good backhand and it is really sad to see her go.

well,maria will most likely move ahead,if they even take justine off immediately. remember lindsay was still ranked even after she announced her retirement in 06. and justine still has quite alot of points ahead of sharapova. but now that justine is indefinitely not participating,it's a bit more difficult to tell. maria won amelia island....serena charleston but serena was beaten by safina last week early. maria i dunno how she will far this week. and ana was beaten last week and today early so we dunno about her either. i still feel the top contenders will most likely be the better clay players like jankovic or kuzentsova and a possible surprise win or runner-up shot for perhaps safina or dementieva.
