Question:

What will happen to us around retirement age if we have little money, and no real plans?

I mean it seems cruel to just kick old people out in the street, that is if we even make it that long. It's just that so many people out there could care LESS about retirement. They're living it up now, in the here and now, don't care, and I don't want to end up being 70 or something and homeless.

What about all of our possessions?

They'll all disappear too, if we can't afford to keep them in a home etc.

It seems like a VERY scary situation, to plan for retirement, because A) we don't even know if we'll get there, B)we'll be old, ugly, and decrepid, and C)it's just scary.

Why does our country care so much about big business, money, and young working people and discards the old or doesn't have many programs for the unprepared elderly?

  2. Hi Luke,

That’s a very interesting- and sometimes worrying thought you’ve raised.

Luckily, there are ways you can raise additional cash when retiring. If you are a property owner one of the most beneficial ways of doing this is through property equity release, sometimes referred to as lifetime mortgages. This is my recommendation for your retirement planning.

    Hope this helps.

  3. your exactly right.

basically, you have to win the lottery to have a comfortable and relaxing retirement.  nowadays, people are just working there butts off, even as elders.  if you cant afford retirement, you cant, and you need to go back to work.

its sad and all, but unless family members would put you in assisted living or live with them or to reach ends meet...your kinda screwed.

:[    i hope you and everyone else wins the mega million!

  4. retirement will suck.

  5. As one who has reached that threshold and also failed to plan, I can tell you, it is rough to exist.

The only thing I did that was right was to have a place paid for. At least I have a home. It is just a cabin in the Ozarks, close to a good fishing hole, good hunting close by also.

I always figured I'd fall over dead on the job, but didn't. The job did disable me but I guess I wasn't ready to die.

For a young person today, I would suggest, setting up a savings account and depositing at least 10 cents out of every dollar you make. Don't touch it except for medical emergencies. Find a business to invest in, that has a future. Get the best education you can get and at least one good job. Forget about a party every night and live as cheaply as possible. Buy a house while you are young in a place you want to live the rest of your life in. Then relax and hope.
