i need to do a project on the ozone layer and i was wondering what would happen if the ozone layer grew very thin all over the planet or would completely disappear.

  1. Without ozone there will be a massive increase in the number of cases of skin cancer caused by excessive UV light altering cellular DNA leading to mutation (skin cancer). Some species will become extinct as the UV will destroy their DNA, some will hardley be affected like a cockroach that has high tolerance for radiation.  Species that live underground or under deep water will not be affected, unless their food chain is affected.

  2. That truth is just a bit too inconvenient for me.

But seriously: Life on earth would go on, as it always does. The human race would figure out a way to engineer around its blunders and continue much as before. Resilient species would have surviving members, and those members would adapt to a new environment.

    But that's sheer speculation.

For your project, study existing ozone holes and statistics in those areas. Find scientific journals on the topic. Do a google search for academic and/or scientific journals on the topic and utilize those stats to make the best possible prediction for what the future would actually look like with the information you have at hand.

And buy some SPF 30 sunblock.

  3. we r all gonna kill the human race before long!

  4. earth will be burned by scorching heat of the sun

  5. It is a very long story but the ozone layer has an automatic repair sequence that goes like this. The ozone layer is created where the solar winds collide with the earth's magnetic field . This the very edge of space. The solar winds are ionized from the heat of the sun and the beta particles are attracted to the north pole and make it negative. The alpha particles are attracted to the south pole and make it positive. At a time when the tilt of earth is right they form a beta ray gun that blows a hole in the ozone layer at the poles. Now to the neat ozone repair system . If the ozone layer were to thin and let some alpha particles through to bombard the nitrogen layer and trans mutates the nitrogen to oxygen and thus the instant repair.

  6. the answer has nothing to do with burning up or frying the earth. All life would not end, there would be some that would adapt. But what the ozone layer does is it protects the Earth from UV rays. It blocks more than 90% of the strongest UV rays (UVC), about half of UVB, and some of UVA (the weakest UV rays). Without the ozone layer, all things would be left completely exposed to all of them.

Most of the creatures that will survive are those that live in the deep ocean, where the UV rays cannot penetrate.

  7. if it disapeared we would look like Mars ,burned out with out atmosphere ,trees water or life

    but you are very optimistic

thinking about futures what makes you think there is such a thing

there are so many predictions for disastre

here is my collection of ends of the humanity

many predictions are for the years between 2012 and 2020

    Nostradamus,the mayas ,Egyptians Jesus ,

and Terrance Mckennas time wave who put the magnetic output of the world into a computor projection that stopped at zero in 2012,this means the globe has stopped and it starts turning

the other way ,the resulting change of currents will turn the planet into a giant washing machine cleaning the surface

then there are the meteors storms (armageddon) ,the gulf of Mexico is the result of one that would have made life exstinct for a while ,this would result in an other ice age because globe gets covered in dust for a few years, blocking out the sun.

then there are more posible natural disasters

Volcanos are coming to life everywhere

the weather has giant storms like hurricanes ,tornados ,tidal waves ,earth quackes

a shift of the earth crust ,would change the position of the poles

under Anrarctica were found fosilized tropical plants indication the pole must have been in a different place then (the mainland atlantis is thought to be under it )

Apart from that , the biggest threat to any species of exstinction is ,when there are too little ,and when there are too many ,so overpopulation is also a threat

and the USA appears to be gunning for a global nuclear conflict .it is most likely that this will get us first ,looking at present politics

the planet will probably survive unless humanities bombs result it to be knocked out of its orbit

so many ends to choose from

if it wasnt so serious it would be rediculous

meanwhile enjoy life .and make the most of it at least we are all in the same boat

  8. Whatever happens nothing lasts for ever. So enjoy it when you can.

  9. that's exactly what the Union of Concerned Scientists worry about. see first link below.

if the truth b known, some deluded people seriously think they can/will fly 2 another planet.

they're lording a new planet, found on the borders of space today.

scientists say it MAY have water, air & life.

it will take 60 years plus 2 get there, will cost billions of $/£ & as there is no solid proof of life, let alone water or air.

it would b better 2 put those billions 2 better use sorting out the Planet we're living on right now.

    wouldn't it?

anyway a few years back i said 2 everybody & anybody.

    the Sun doesn't look right.

it still doesn't look right & very pessimistic, i know.

but this planet can not continue 2 support the pressures on it without some form of lash-back.
