What will happen when humans are gone?

Question

Lets just say a killer bacteria is going around and kills all humans not affecting the earth or the other creatures on it. Who will be the main dominate specie? And how about the oceans, deserts, forests, and other places. Who would be the dominate species there?

I think that's a really unanswered question because it all depends on how humans will leave the planet. Only certain species will be able to survive and I think the Darwin theory will be applied. New species might grow from the disaster and we could have a completely different world eventually.

The theory out there is that we are wasting our earth away but setting it up for other species that will thrive on how we leave our earth . this has happened a number of times and each time the earth had changed a new species domanated. at the begining single cell that lived with no oxigen but produced it when earth reached 1 percent there was another change this went on for a long time till the earth reached 20 percent oxigen and made it possible for our species since we need a plantet with 20 percent oxigen. depending what occures with our gasses here on earth will detumine what species comes out on top

I would say the smallest species living would be the dominant ones.  It may not appear from the food chain for this to be so..but once everything goes to sh*t...it will be the microbials living in salt granuals at the bottom of the ocean that survive.  Even when the sun turns to it's red giant stage and boils the oceans away...they will still survive.  They will lie there dormant, until conditions are right again for them to evolve.
