  1. how many times will someone answer the same thing as previous answerers have already supplied?

SO WHAT DO THEY DO AGAIN?

  2. The cup has different rings on it that you can take off.  When it get full they take off one of the rings and put it in the hall of fame and put a new ring on it.  Make sense?

  3. They weld new additions onto it.

  4. They just add another band to the bottom. they've been doing it since the beginning. Originally the cup was just the actual cup and when Lord Stanley bought it they first started adding the bands. I hear that eventually when the cup gets too tall, they may take the top bands off and display them in the hockey hall of fame and etc., keeping the same number of bands.

  5. The modern one-piece Cup design was introduced in 1958 with a five-band barrel, each of which could contain 13 winning teams. When the bands were all filled in 1991, the top band of the large barrel was preserved in the Hockey Hall of Fame (Toronto, ON), and a new blank band was added to the bottom so the Stanley Cup would not grow further.

After the 2005–06 champion Carolina Hurricanes were crowned, and the new bottom ring was added. Currently, the Cup stands at 89.5 cm (35¼ inches) tall and weighs 15½ kg (34½ lb).

  6. they remove the oldest ring on the cup and replace it with a fresh blank. the old ring goes to the hockey hall of fame in Montreal

  8. They don't remove names. The just replace the top ring and start a new ring at the bottom.

The rings that have been removed are on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame

  9. yes that has already happened. names are already gone

i guess I'm wrong  i thought i rememberd an uproar about this and my answer was the reason why

  10. They remove the top ring, which has the earlier names, and add a ring to the bottom and engrave the new names.  The removed rings are put in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

  11. The rings are retired and put into the HHOF. The Stanley Cup is only the cup and first base of the trophy. The thing that looks like a bowl. The one with the rings that  the players hoist is just a replica made of silver (a very nice replica - still the best and biggest and most hoist-able trophy in sports). The original doesn't leave the Hall of Fame.

  12. They remove the oldest full ring and it goes to the hockey hall of fame, and a new ring that can be engraved is added
