Question:

What will happen with my mice?

It is almost time to separate the babies that my mouse had. I separated the father in an identical cage before the babies were born and I was wondering what would happen if I put the male babies in with the father. I know that sometimes the males will get territorial, but if you have any tips, it would help a lot!! Thanks in advance!

  1. The father will almost certainly at least injure some of the babies if not kill them. Male mice are extremely territorial and male rodents in general do not tend to do well with baby cagemates.

All the males babies can be kept in the same cage (with each other) temporarily. There will become a point (especially since there are females in your home as well) that they will likely start to fight with each other. You'll either have to find homes for them or get enough cages to keep them all individually or at most in pairs.

  2. I personally wouldn't put the males in with the dad yet.

  3. In my opinion I wouldn't take the risk of putting them in with dad.

I suggest getting another cage and sticking all the male babies together in that. As long as they stay together, none are removed/introduced, and no females are present - they should get along fine.

    Good luck!

  4. well if your ok with having another litter put the male back in with the female and use the fathers old cage for the babies but remember you will need to separate the boys and girls , but if not just put them into the cage and see what happens
