Does that leave his super featherweight title vacant or could he defend it and have it coexist with his lightweight title?

  1. he could defend the title if he wishes.. but i think he will not go down to the superfeatherweight division again because he is much faster, better and stronger boxer in the lightweight category.

  2. This is just my personal opinion. With his new title as the holder of a lightweight champ it will surely make him the king of pound for pound as the recent caliber boxer of the new era. Likewise, with regards to the question he has the obligation to defend the previous title because it's mandatory and practically it will surely be "coexist with his new title. But surely what matters most is it's marketability and how fat is the pocket which the promoter can grab and or5 gain.

  3. I think it's still his.... He could still defend if it someone would challenge him... But for additional info for Pacquiao fans out there!.... Pacman is scheduled for a fight this November and on an unspecified date in 2009 he would fight in the welterweight division against Ricky Hatton!.....

  4. He could defend his super featherweight title, if he wanted to, but I have a feeling the Pacquiao doesn't plan on going back down to that division, which lead to his title becoming vacant.

  5. Well, the WBC super featherweight title that he owns will become vacant unless he decides to defend it by the time his next mandatory is due.  Since, the WBC ruled that a rematch must take place between Humberto Soto and Francisco Lorenzo (who fought for the interim title on the undercard), then the winner of that fight will become the new WBC super featherweight titleholder.  The Ring Magazine super featherweight belt that he owns will also become vacant if he is truly staying at lightweight- which looks like it is the case.  So, they will most likely become vacant and he will just have his lightweight title unless a huge fight pops up at 130 pounds that he wants to take, but I highly doubt that will happen because all of the name fighters around his weight are now fighting at 135- Joel Casmayor, Nate Campbell, Juan Manuel Marquez (moving up), and Joan Guzman (moving up).

  6. it is for sale at ebay

  7. There was another fight on the same night as the Diaz vs Pacquiao between Humberto Soto and Francisco Lorenzo which was for the 'interim' title. This means that if Pacquiao was to vacate his super featherweight title and defend his lightweight title the belt would go to the winner of Soto vs Lorenzo. This fight ended very controversially with Soto clearly on top before Joe Cortez DQ'd him for a non-existent hit on the downed opponent. Soto appealed and the WBC decided that the fight would be replayed and that the winner of that bout will be the next title holder, was Pacquiao to vacate (which, after beating Diaz, he almost certainly will.)
