What will his punishment be?

My Boyfriend is in trouble. Yesterday his friend was caught stealing and drinking alcohol from work. The alcohol wasn't a significant amount, but it was still stealing. Although he himself didn't steal, he still consumed what was taken

Their boss has threatened to turn the case over to the police.

What will his punishment be, even if he didn't steal, but was an accomplice to theft?

He's a first time offender with a clean record.

Im so worried. How serious is the situation, and what is his punishment likely to be?

  1. Probably a slap on the wrist, a small fine. I would be more worried that he will get fired.

  2. Key word you use is ' the boss threatened"

Threaten means nothing has happened. that was yesterday.

Tell your boy friend to shut his trap, It isn't his fault someone else stole some beer and offered him a drink.

What is he a Mormon, Muslim, or a Baptist?

  3. not bad to be honest, he'll just get told off

  4. Nice guy, bet you want to marry him!

People who steal are low lifes!

I would have fired him on the spot.

Most likely our soft laws will do nothing.

  5. When you get down to facts, if he knew it was stolen property and he exercised control over it (by drinking it), he committed theft. Now, it's entirely another question of whether the police would consider charging him. Assuming the boss can provide proof, it might well depend on circumstances. If his friend held up a bottle and said, "Hey, Dude. I just scored some vodka from the storeroom. Let's go out back and hit it.", he's fully involved.

If the boss didn't fire or suspend him on the spot, he's not likely to call the police. These things are usually best handled by sincerely telling the boss he's sorry and not trying to cover for his thieving friend. Even a small theft conviction can be a big deal, as it can be considered a "crime of moral turpitude" and can affect such wide ranging things as getting various professional licenses and being an election judge.
