what will I do?..

I want to join vrcty. but my mom said no, cause she thinks.. "di mo kaya.." your grades might go down.. it's an everyday practice!.. they pull you out and miss notes.

I just said yes cause I don't want to argue with her and end up with her saying "bahala ka!" I just to try..but with her side it's like no! no! you can't do it. until now I'm not opening that topic..cause i'm scared of what she'll say. The reason i want to join is because i want to train myself while i'm at high school, so when i try out in college i know what to do...i was wondering if i could push my grade up first then i'll try out.. (it's not that it's low it's standard..) i'm also afraid if what if i'll join but i'm at the bench all the time.. i want to be at the line up.. specially i have only 1 year to let that happen... i'm 3rd year..like my friend.. she joined 1st year.. she was at the bench from 1st year to 2nd year.. and what now for me right?.. so please help!!! :( i'm very confused!!!..

  1. Tell your mother that the two of you will work together on your studies.  Playing sports means another commitment.  You have to decide on how to schedule your study time around practice.  Making the team and having your grades drop will not help you in your career.  Grades are very important.

You will need to plan your days.  School, then practice and then dinner and then homework.  Becoming a good volleyball player and a bad student means nothing.  You have to keep the grades up.

    Good luck.

  2. So, you are what we call a Junior in High School in this country. What do you want to do?

    Will your grades go down?

What if you make a deal with your mom that you will quit the team if your grades go down? You have to follow through with this deal. Grades are more important. You won't even be allowed to play, by the coach, if you are in danger of failing classes. But if your mom is expecting nothing but As, then she'd have to monitor your grades then.

Who cares if you are on the bench. Why do you have to be a starter when it's your first year. Do you realize that a lot of girls play for 8 or 9 years by the time they are Juniors? And you expect to beat them out in your first year of playing?

young people also tend to forget that practices are part of the experience. When you are in a school sport, you also get to experience the fun of practice and you get better because of it. If you want to do it, make it happen.

However, your mom seems very strict and you are possibly in another country (due to your English) so there may be higher standards you are shooting for. Whatever it is, work it out with your mom.
