  1. My grandmother had a dwarf hamster with the same thing and it was a type of cancer of some sort.  You could look up stuff about that if it helps.

I don't know the cost in Canada, but I do know it'll be expensive!  I live in the USA and took my hamster to the vet once and it ended up costing $120 for the check up and medicine.  And it still died a week later. ):  So don't expect it to be cheap, even though you live in a different country.  I think the appointments here were $20 themselves.  If you need some numbers, I would go along with that.

It might cost more though since it might be cancer.  You could chose to have it removed, but that would take surgery and a lot more money.  I'm really sorry.. ):

  2. it could be nothing, it could be easily over $50-$100. but it would be wise to see if they would just check it out. anything for animals!

  3. i live in Canada Ontario too. my rat had a huge tumor so we brought it to the vet. it cost us about 35$ for them to look at it and tell us it was cancer. they gave us the option of paying about 300$ to get it surgery or something, but we thought that was ridiculous to spend for a rat that only lives about 3 years, so we decided to just bring her home. she lived for another good 6 months before it got really bad and we had to get her put down. that cost us about 20$. if you end up bringing your hamster home, make sure to give it lots of love and attention.

keep in mind, if you go to an emergency vet that costs a lot more. i spent 120$ for them to put my other rat down.

but good luck, hope your hamster is okay.

  4. look in the phone book, find a small animal vet, and call and see. he sounds like he needs vet care regardless, so if it's pricey most times they'll work with you on a payment plan because things do get expensive sometimes. don't delay and call a vet!

  5. It sounds like it could be cancerous, but I think the best thing to do is just calm down, make sure your hamster is doing okay, and check on it all of the time. I highly doubt there are any vets nearby that specialize in hamsters, and if there are, it could easily cost over $40....Also, a trip to the vet could cause stress for your hammy. The best thing to do is just be with it, pet it gently, talk to it, feed it soft foods (so its easier to eat) and make sure it has plenty of water. Don't stress out, hamsters don't live long anyway. It might just be its time to go....I'm sorry. Hope things work out.

  6. Nothings free. Every vet cost something even if your going in just to let the vet take a look at your hamster.

I hope your hamsters going to be ok!!!

  7. It could easily be over $100, but please take your hammy to the vet no matter what the cost!
