Question:

What will it prove if the Large Hadron Collider is able to tease a Higgs Boson into existence?

The collider is currently being cooled down to its final operating temperature of approximately −271.25 °C. The first high-energy collisions are planned to take place after the LHC is officially unveiled, on October 21, 2008.

When activated, it is theorized that the collider will produce the elusive Higgs boson.

  1. Who mentioned "hard on"?

Dimmler thinks we are going to all crash and burn when they start fiddling with that thingy.

    Perish the thought.

  2. The LHC is the 'Tower of Babel' of science, and  will never find this so called 'God particle', and will probably cause more harm than it could ever do for the good of mankind. Clearer heads are trying to stop it:

  3. The Higgs-Boson is a very special particle, which existed in the beginning of the universe. It is the missing link between subatomar particles without resting mass and those with resting mass.

Creating it will not only validate the standard model further (as the Higgs Boson is the only particle predicted, but not found yet), it will also validate the currently simplest theoretically described way how matter can be created from energy.

  4. Why didn't you subscribe to my column I explained it to the morons before, here it goes again....

When you get on the scale in the morning, you may be hoping that it registers a smaller number than the day before -- you may be hoping that you've lost weight. It's the quantity of mass in you, plus the force of gravity, that determines your weight. But what determines your mass?

Now to Higgs Boson particle, imagine a ballon with two parts in it that move back and forth rapidly.

  5. It will prove that what happens on a molecular scale is also happening on a super-macular one. It's all relative, and we humans are only able to observe a relatively small fraction of the infinitesimally cosmic process.

  6. You're doing better than me, Vick - I thought it said Hardon.

  7. When you smash things together they break. The faster you smash em together the more broke they get. The Higgs Boson is the ultimate proof that people will pay a h**l of a lot of money for broken stuff if you can just get your PR right.

  8. Hopefully, it will mean open-season on Higgs Bosons. I hear they taste like beef but have leaner meat.

Wait a sec, boson?  I thought that said bison...

  9. STEP AWAY FROM THE "LIQUID PAPER"! Remember last time it took the whole church to trap and cage you till you came down... As you know our resources are dwindling fast and we can't afford anymore tranquilizer darts. Thanks for your cooperation.
