Will the glaciers have to take out Canada or wil they have to come all the way south to NYC?

  1. Maybe the same thing that convinced many of us AGW was real?  It's called scientific evidence.  That involves research, analysis, peer-reviewed journal articles, scrutiny by other experts in the field, etc.

And just FYI, even if the glaciers did come down into NYC, that doesn't mean AGW is wrong (you obviously don't understand the theory), it only means another strong climatic factor has become dominant (asteroid hit hurling dust into the atmosphere, significant never-before-detected drop in the suns solar output, etc.).

  2. Time will probably slowly kill the latest domeday cult as it did the previous ones, i.e. overpopulation, global cooling, acid rain, ozone depletion, nuclear winter, Y2K, etc...They will move on to something else IMO.

  3. A few peer-reviewed scientific papers would be nice.

The consensus was quantified in a Science study by Prof. Naomi Oreskes (Dec. 2004) in which she surveyed 928 scientific journal articles that matched the search [global climate change] at the ISI Web of Science. Of these, according to Oreskes, 75% agreed with the consensus view (either implicitly or explicitly), 25% took no stand one way or the other, and none rejected the consensus.

As for the recent talk of it being cold in Minnesota and in Canada:

    http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/mailings/2...

The past year (2007) witnessed a transition from a weak El Nino to a strong La Nina (the latter is perhaps beginning to moderate already, as the ocean waters near Peru are beginning to warm). January 2007 was the warmest January in the period of instrumental data in the GISS analysis, while, as shown in Figure 1, October 2007 was # 5 warmest, November 2007 was #8 warmest, December 2007 was #8 warmest, and January 2008 was #40 warmest. Undoubtedly, the cooling trend through the year was due to the strengthening La Nina, and the unusual coolness in January was aided by a winter weather fluctuation.

The monthly fluctuations of global or near-global temperature, as well as the trend over recent decades can be seen in Figure 2 for the GISS surface temperature analysis as well as the lower tropospheric data of UAH (University of Alabama at Huntsville)2 and RSS (Remote Sensing Systems).  The reason to show these is to expose the recent nonsense that has appeared in the blogosphere, to the effect that recent cooling has wiped out global warming of the past century, and the Earth may be headed into an ice age. On the contrary, these misleaders have foolishly (or devilishly) fixated on a natural fluctuation that will soon disappear.

Note that even the UAH data now have a substantial warming trend (0.14°C per decade). RSS find 0.18°C per decade, close to the surface temperature trend (0.17°C per decade). The large short-term temperature fluctuations have no bearing on the global warming matter or the impacts of global warming discussed in the Illinois Wesleyan presentation. A global warming much smaller than weather fluctuations has the potential for dramatic effects, e.g., by setting in motion future large sea level change, species extinction, and various other impacts.

So much for all the irrelevant talk about a cold winter.

BTW, careful with the name-calling or your question and/or account may get deleted.

  4. proof

  5. When evidence of it not existing shows up. And were not talking about the evidence that suggests it may not be real or those articles where they say that one year was cooler. We are talking about 100 of years of a cooling trend or data that can disprove it.

If anyone has links to disprove it then show me.

  6. I think it will at least take a shred of evidence that humans are not causing the current global warming.  That would be a good start.

  7. Apparently they have antipodal evidence for everything that concerns the environment. The refreezing of a glacier was just a freak of nature,by speculation only. There is no prove it's either natural or influenced by man.The same is implied with GW?CC.As long as their stool has one leg left, they are going to sit on this notion.

  8. Evidence to the contrary.  The theory based upon global warming is based upon the fact that the recorded hottest times in the world just happened to coincide with times of increased CO2 levels.

After 100-200 years of continued CO2 emissions and no sign of increase in the Earth's temperature.  And it has increased by 1 degree, and the Earth's mean temperature rarely increases that much.

  9. They won't.  For them it's an issue of faith.  They will no more admit they are wrong, than a person will change their religion.

There is no more proof that man is causing warming then there is that the Sun is causing warming. People will choose because of what they believe, not what can be proven.  And since it's faith, then they will never change.

  10. well since its been proven that humans are causing global warming, and that its having serious serious affects on the globe right now i dont understand why you would ask this question. that is unless you think science is lying? and that the polar bears are killing themselves. and that the oceans are rising just cause they feel like it. and that the highiest recorded temps in history have all come in the last 20 years. i mean you dont even have to be smart to know its going on. but you do have to be pretty stupid to believe its not.

  11. Or rather what will it take for you to realise that global warming is a global problem that if we don't do something about it now then the consequences will be harder to deal with.  The animals who life in the North and south pole regains rely on a habitat that is diminishing due to human activity and it will keep diminishing because humans can't be arsed to do anything about it.  It sees somewhat arrogant of you to say that Global Warming is a myth, it also seems that you will be getting wet soon, the Themes barrier has risen to cope with the increase of water, when NYC is underwater what will you think.

  12. let the planet heal itself, any intervention from our side will be futile. there are more pressing problems than this. i just cant believe that the public is actually buy this bull, why dont we all wake up and smell the real problems that are facing us and save our human beings from hunger and starvation.
