In the future what will jails, court systems, police, weaponry etc. be like?

  1. It will be influenced by crime and criminal trends and also with what demands the most resources.

    Today, traffic is very labor intensive and expensive.  So your seeing a lot of camera enforcement come on line slowly but surely.  The jails will become more automated and my guess is further isolation from other inmates and jail staff.  The courts are using diversion programs for traffic offenses which allow people with tickets to get supervision without seeing a judge.  Police weapons will probably see another step in less lethal technology.  The police will still be longing for automation and systems integration.

    We are still seeing many systems of technology that do not interact with one another.  Cental data bases for police reports and criminal activity is on the way.  Fingerprint identification systems in the field and digital imaging in the car are almost here.

    Every time I think I see the last of the technology, I get surprised with something new.  What I saw 25 years ago in our station and in the police car is incredible.  we are streaming live video from car to station and from stationary camera to cars.  It only gets better, the only thing in the way is costs.
