  1. Your vessel must be equipped with a Coast Guard approved Backfire Flame Arrestor on the Carburator on any gasoline powered inboard engine.

  2. A backfire frame arrestor on top of the motor and also having a blower system that ventilates the engine compartment which should be run for a couple minutes prior to a cold start-up. It is not necessary when running though so turn it off once your all warmed up

  3. YOU MUST HAVE A FLAME ARRESTOR ON carb. This is a vital piece of safety equipment. It typically has a set of flat plates or wire mesh. Dont exactly know how it works but it does. Good luck

  4. Coast Guard flame arrestor on the top of carburetor or intake>Also have a exhaust fan running 10 minutes before running the engine>

  5. The only possible source of flame is back through the carborator.  That's why all engines must have a flame-arrester.   But, don't tempt fate.

  6. Adequate ventilation.

the safest thing is to have no vapors present when there is a spark.
