Oil prices on the rise, everybody's jumping on the ethanol, wind, solar bandwagon. In 50 years what do you think we'll be relying on? Oil still? Corn ethanol? Algae ethanol? Wind? Solar cars? Amalgamation of them all? What kind of combo?

  1. In 50 years, I think there will be ocean/river current and ocean tidal power producing turbines splitting sea water into oxygen and hydrogen (no need to worry any more about the melting south pole ice cap raising the ocean level).  The hydrogen will be piped to shore and put into "safe" non pressured metal hydride pellets (several companies are working on this now) to safely carry the hydrogen in the tank of you car.

Or the ocean/river turbines will make electricity and directly put the power into ships (which will be as large as todays oil tankers) carrying supercapacitors (also called untra-capacitors).  They will load up and come into ports around the world and transfer the power directly to the electric grid for coastal areas or transfer the power to supercapacitors on trains for inland areas.  Cars and trucks will be electric powered.

I recently saw a TV show that said just a few square miles of turbines on the sea will be enough to power all of Great Britain.

  2. Pretty much like it looks right now.
