Question:

What will this do to my plants?

I've been thinking about giving small amounts of ampthetamines to one of my plants. I think that this could possibly do something to their growth. Since ampthetamines speeds up bodily functions, I'm thinking that it might speed up the growing process in the plant. Has anybody ever done this, or heard about this bein done before?

  1. Is this J in Palm Beach?

  2. Plants produce defense chemicals from their metabolic processes as secondary metabolites. These metabolites are able to deter mammals and others from herbivory by being psychoactive &/or toxic. These chemical defenses are not lethal but teach the herbivore not to eat that particular plant. The Acacia genus is known to use amphetamines and alkaloids in its chemical defense arsenal. So the chemical is a natural toxin, in some Acacias, against animals.

The way amphetamines work is to interact with a mammals neural system by binding to cell membrane protein and altering the protein's function. Amphetamine is incapable of effecting plants in the way it does a mammal.  Plants lack a neural system and the specific neural transporter protein the amphetamine binds. However that does not mean it will bind nothing in a plant just that it can't act in any predictable fashion such as it does with mammals.

The amphetamines may be harmful to plants unrelated to Acacias or it may be inert to plants. Caffeine is used by trees to suppress some other plants growing close as well as deter herbivores.

  3. well the amphetamines can speed up  stimulates like coffee whats up the average person but for people suffering from adhd it cause to slow down i dont know if their different
