Question:

What will this do to the value of my house?

I currently have a 4bd and 2 full bath small house in NJ. The bedrooms are relatively small and the two baths are pretty tight. I would like to convert two of the bedrooms and 1 bath into a master suite. This will means I will now have 3 bds and 2 bath but a nice master suite. How will this affect the value of the house? The house is pretty small so I can't see anyone with even more than 4 people (2 adults and two child) would want to buy it in the future so I don't think the next family coming in will need 4 bds. On the otherhand, the master suite might draw young couples to buy a single family detached rather than a townhouse. please advise.

  1. ~~I don't know how far this site handles home information but try going to www.zillow.com  You can put in your home address and see the current value. If you are the owner, you can change the home to show improvements then it will give you the new value. You can see if it drops it or increases it. Then you can change it back. I found out after we put in our double pane windows and insulation it increased the value of our home enough it completely covered the cost of the improvements. It's a very awesome too for homeowning!~~

  2. If you can do that, and make it look appealing and functional, and all the laws and permits and stuff..

If it looks great afterwards and no funny shaped bedrooms and oddly placed bathrooms, I SAY GO FOR IT..

I would MUCH rather have a master bedroom and bath then 4 small bedrooms and 2 small bathrooms..

    Good idea.

I think 3 beds 2 bath is the AVERAGE house or the most that people look for.

I think its a great idea.

  3. Sounds nice to me. Everyone loves a nice master bedroom.
