Our local councils are talking about charging householders in future for the amount of refuse they throw out.In an attempt to be greener I try and recycle glass, tins and cards and paper.Though our council won't take Christmas wrapping paper as they can't recycle it.Do recycling sites for plastic bottles exist in the UK?

  1. Our council WON'T TAKE CARDBOARD OR PLASTICS !!!!!!!

How cr@p is that ???  if you want to re-cycle them you have to drive to a local centre.

If they start charging I will be buying a sturdy metal bin and will burn it - why should I have to pay for a service that they are taking away ?????

  2. When I lived in Sweden the local authority collected the christmas trees in the new year, chipped them, and then if you wished you could buy the chippings for your garden ... a great idea ...

  3. i never cycled before christmas so it does not matter

  4. Seems to me that Christmas is just recycled every year anyway.

If people want to do something for the environment then just 'consume' less. Do less and buy less and of course eat less!

  5. Cardboard, lots and lots of cardboard ;-)

  6. Coucils will only launch a recycling scheme if its cost-effective, i.e. profitable. Glass, plastic bottles, all paper, cardboard, tins etc are all recyclable but if a local council can't get a good price for a particular catergory from any of the recycling companies they won't bother to collect it. Its not about being 'green' or environmentally aware, its about MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.

  7. Pinkribbon,

I live in the City of Newport ; which is (apparently) the greenest city in the UK at the moment.

They accept plastics (but not ALL kinds) in the recycling weekly collections.

  10. not sure, but I know if we dont seperate out all our rubbish we either get fined....or the old man down the road who is even more miserable than me grasses you up for it!

  11. There are some places that have a collection bank for plastic, but not many.

Such places only seem to exist for those who have cars, not really much use for those without transport, the elderly or disabled.  I hope more will be provided next to the glass and paper banks soon.

Better still, collect plastic and tins at the door as they do with the paper and kitchen waste.

  12. try contacting your local mp about that I did and I was able to find out where I  could recycle plastics, your mp should be able to tell you.Take your cards to local stores after christmas ,and help recycle with the woodland trust.

  13. yes your council sud already be takin plastic if they are not get in touch and tell them to get with the times cos plastic bottles and wrapping paper can be recycling

  14. yes i recycle anything i can!

theres a recycling centre on my doorstep so its easy for me!

altho i dont beleive in the charging because my neighbour fills my bin up with his c**p and there will be a lot more if the charges do come in!

  15. My husband hopefully! LOL!

We recycle anything we can, plastic shouldn't be a problem and they shouldn't charge, they should be encouraging you.
