if you are force to gather with people that you don't like and they don't like you too, but they don't show it and they act as if they like you very much

do you just pretend that you like them or you be frank and show it to them

First pretend, be polite and treat them as you would like to be treated.  Then try to get to know them and surely you will find something good about them that will help you like them.

If it's for a business function, I will go and "fake it till I make it'. If it's on a personal level, I still will go and be fake, but it's to preserve my own reputation, nobody else's.
