I've been in this position. Initially, I felt awful, but slowly I started to realize that I can't take the problems of the world on myself. I need to make the best choices I can for me, and if I have the ability to share with others, that's great.

I have a teenager who has friends.  I never have food.  The grocery store is my second home.  I would just say, "Just give me a few minutes to go to the store".
