What wine/champagne should we buy to celebrate new baby?

My partner and I are expecting our first child in a month and I would like some suggestions on what wine or champagne we should buy to celebrate. Normally we enjoy something like Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc but are open to suggestions. Price is not a major issue.

PS We are in Aus.

  1. If the baby is a girl consider pink champagne, there are a number of good ones. If you aren't big on drinking champagne then pink is more drinkable than a lot of the more sour brut champagnes. Here are some reviews of pink champagnes.

If you're having a boy, look at this one. It's in a cute blue bottle and sounds like a fun champagne with a quirky way of drinking it.

May the birth go well and blessings on your baby!

  2. All are good suggestions.  This is pretty much up to you guys.

Personally, what I would do is as follows:

To celebrate the arrival, I would get something I can open right away.  There is nothing better than to celebrate with Champagne.  What I and some of my wine loving friends do is to get some nice expensive bottles of Champagne, such as Dom Perignon or La Grande Dame, open a bottle to celebrate at that particular moment as a toast, then save the rest in cellar or wine fridge/storage, so the same Champagne can be used for the "big" moments in your child's life - maybe 18th birthday, college graduation, wedding, or even the arrival of his own child.  A high quality Champagne kept under optimal condition will able to survive for at least 20-30 years, while cheaper stuff may not able to survive.

If that is out of your budget, then you can consider some very nice Australian Cabernet or Shiraz.  Many Australian red are big wines and should able to survive for 15-20 years, again similar to the idea as above.

The only kick to that idea is that the wine and Champagne you buy now is actually from vintages 2-3 years before, so you may get a bottle to open and celebrate now from current release, but go back 2-3 years later so you can get the vintage year of his birth year.  Nonethless, I still think it is quite cool to drink the same wine as old as you.  I once opened a bottle of wine made from the year I graduate from high school - quite interesting experience.

    Congrats and good luck

  3. These are what i would suggest.

    Dom Perignon 1999

Perrier Jouet Fleur de Champagne 1999

    the KIM CROWFORD SUV BLANC

  5. moet & chandon (its the name of 1 champagne, not 2)

  6. Sparkling apple juice.

  7. SPEWMANTY!!!!

    good ole spewy!

    OK no.

Yellow tail is nice, it depends on what you like in terms of wine, I really like this mix of different wines (it use to be called jigsaw) its a very light palate.

I wish I could remember the name my suggestion is to go in to a cellar and ask for a mixture of Chardonnay and Sauv blanc they're very nice and not as bitter as some wines can get.
