Question:

What wine goes well with brie?

I really like brie but I don't like it with cabernet, chardonnay or light whites like chablis. I liked it with a pinot noir, or vouvrey (a semi-sweet white wine) but good ones cost too much, like 40$ and up. Is there any wine in the 20 dollar or less range that goes well with a 5-8 dollar wedge of brie? Food-wise, I like the brie with apples, pears, walnuts or cranberries and french bread, of course. Any food or wine tips will be appriciated!

  1. There are modestly priced pinots noirs. Burgundies are quite expensive, but Trader Joe's sells a Two Buck Chuck that's a p.n. And if you want to go higher than that, there are plenty of others.

I prefer red wines with cheese, but if you like vouvrays, there are cheaper Australian, Chilean, and US wines made of the same grape (chenin blanc.) Or perhaps you might like to try a traminer or even a gewurztraminer.

  2. I guess the "experts" would pair you with a nice white that you don't really like.  I too like brie with vegie crackers and always choose a wine that I know I would enjoy wheather it be red or white.

When in the mood for white, I would go with a New York dry Riesling.  If red is my choice, it would be a Chianti or an inexpensive Bordeaux.

  3. For the red: Mark West Pinot Noir, Castle Rock Monterrey Pinot Noir, A to Z Pinot Noir (excellent juice from Oregon)

For the white: chenin blanc (the grape in Vouvray) - for sweeter go for a Beringer, Hogue, or others from CA or Washington State.  For a drier Chenin, definitely Claibourne and Churchill - great juice there.

    Hope this helps.

  4. I'm french... for my part, the better with cheese like brie is the wines from Cahors... This last years they became very good...

Ask a good wine seller to know the best ones...

Very particulary taste; they are strong... try it...

They are cheaper than cabernet, chardonnay....

The wines about which you speak are not specially known to go with cheese...

French usually perfer strong red wines with cheese...

There's few day, i had drunk a "Croze de pise" 2002... Good year for this one... I'd like it...

In many french regions french eat chesse (brie, camembert, coulommiers, etc...) with butter from normandy; I like it with salted butter...

There'is a lot of ready meal with brie; Ask me if you want some...

Remember that the most expensive wines are not necessarily the best ones... I was also surprised when I go to US to see how much are selled somes wines; Somes shops play with the fact that it's difficult for american's to buy wine..

Ps: Sorry for my english, I'm here for trying to make some progress..
