Question:

What wire is safe for a bird cage? And what's not safe?

I have Cockatiels and finches. What will be safe and what's not? I know some can kill them!

  1. Stainless Steel is best, but expensive.

    Power coated is next best.

    Galvanized wire contains zinc which can kill a bird, but if you scrub it real well with vingegar and water using a stiff brush to remove any zinc

    it can be used when dry.

    Suggest you buy powder coated cages with correct bar spacing to house each species separately.


  2. I raise Cockatiels, three types of Amazon Parrots, African Grey parrots, Racing pigeons, three colors of standard size

    Polish chickens and five varieties of turkeys and  American Keets.

    I use 1/2" x 1" welded wire for all of my cages and aviaries. I wash it down and rinse it X2 on every cage I make. I have used the welded wire for  years. Always remember to wash it with white vinegar.
