Question:

What wireless items do i need to buy for a IBM Thinkpad T20?

It does not have the wireless networking built into it...

i believe I need to buy a wireless notebook card

and a router.

is this correct?

and what are the best ones to buy?

i was thinking of the LINKSYS brand.

Linksys is a great choice and these days you can purchase a USB wireless device.  If your laptop has a PCMCIA slot you may consider that as well.  I personally recommend the Linksys WRT54G it has two antennas and a great range for the days you want to take the laptop out by the pool.  Be sure you secure your wireless network.  The linksys setup software will help you do that when you install it.
