What wiring kit would I need for a 1200W peak subwoofer?

It is 400W RMS and 1200W max. What wiring kit do i need e.g10 gauge, 8 gauge and what is the difference between wiring kits?

  1. I have a 1100amp running at 500 RMS and I use 10 gauge. IT works well and everything sounds great.


  2. The wiring needs to be specific for your amplifier, not the sub or the wattage. Look at the side of you amp. if it has a 30 amp fuse of more, you need to go with an 8 guage kit. If it is more than a total of 60-70 amps (all fuses combined) you are borderline 4 guage.

    This matters most for 2 big reasons basically:

    1. To give sufficient power to the amp so it can play at the maximum capacity.

    2. So the amp doesn't draw too much amperage from a small guage wire and cause a fire (saw it happen to many many customers)
