What wood should i use to build a cage for my red tailed boa?

i am getting a Suriname red tailed boa soon and need a tank. they cost way to much for what you get and if i build one it will be big enough and better so i need to know what woods wont be toxic or harmful for my new snake it will be a baby when i get it.

after i sand it down really good what kind of finish should i use thats not bad for the boa

2x4 and plywood no cedar or treated any marine varnish or spar urethane will work let it dry and give it a few weeks to air out
