Question:

What word has replaced "typed" when requesting a document.?

I am giving my students the choice of "typing" a document on a word processor or handing a handwritten copy in ink. "Typed" does not sound quite right since the work is not done on a typewriter. Most of my students have never worked with a typewriter.

  1. Well, I guess you could call it a "word processed" or "keyboarded" document.  Makes "typed" sound pretty good, huh?  Students will understand what you mean.

  2. 'Typing' is the act of hitting the keys, which you still do on a computer keyboard, so it is normal to use.  I've never heard anything else.

  3. Typed would be best or you could say done or written on the computer...but I think typed would be best. That is what my teachers say.

  4. Typed still is the operable word because it refers back to printing - e.g. a mechanical process not a manual one.

  5. typing classes are now called keyboarding. I would replace typed with, keyed and printed in 12 pt font and double spaced.

  6. Typing a word document appears to still be the valid choice.  I've found the following examples:

    6. Enter Text into a Document - To enter text into a document, you can either type or speak into a microphone. In typing text....
