I read that knowing really high vocabluary words can affect the turnout of my overall score on the SSAT test.

So, what words should I know for this test.

Just basically give me some good vocabulary words that might apppear throughout the test ot that I can even use on the essay portion.

Thank you in advance.

  1. Aghh im taking the SSAT too...its pure TORTURE! my mom got me this book and it seems to be actually helping....try The Princeton Review books....i believe its called Cracking The ISEE and SSAT or Cracking The SSAT and ISEE. In the book thers vocab, math, writing, etc and practice tests! Good luck!! & also which school do u want to go to??

  2. There is no way to say which words will appear on your SAT, and some of the words are so obscure you may never come across them other than on your test. Knowing what certain prefixes mean and having a general idea of words that you know that sound similar to the difficult word will be very helpful. The best way, in my opinion, to do well with difficult SAT words is to be able to use words you already know to your advantage and the context of the sentence.

If you do not want to buy an SAT prep book or take a course I would recommend getting the SAT question of the day emailed to you for free (http://apps.collegeboard.com/qotd/questi... after you submit an answer to that question there will be a box below it that tells you how to have a different question sent to you everyday) Another thing you may want to try is the word of the day mailing list through dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/wordofth... Or even an online word game at this site may help your vocabulary (http://freerice.com/)

    Best of luck!
