I would approach this in a different way.

I would search for things like "largest personal injury settlements" or "largest personal injury jury verdicts".  Find out which lawyers got the largest verdicts; not which ones self-promote the best.

Then, you need to make sure you find someone that is in the area you need.  The best lawyers for asserting a medical malpractice claim will not be the same as the best lawyers for handling a claim where you had an accident because your car was not properly manufactured.  So include terms to cover the type of plaintiffs' lawyer you need in your search (e.g., medical malpractice, products liability, etc.)

Having said that, I could help you find one of the best if you live in Georgia or South Carolina.

Final point - you may not want the "absolute best" - they tend to be too busy too handle all but their most valuable cases and you'll get frustrated.  Try for second best (who would still be better than 1000s of other attorneys).  They'll give more attention to your specific case.  Also, try to make sure that the person you hire is the one doing most of the work.  A lot of times there's one bigshot at the firm, but your case may be handled by lesser competent individuals.
