  1. As a veteran commodities broker for 27 years, I can say there are two currencies backed by gold. First is the Swiss Franc, which is backed by 70% gold. Second, which has been recently converted, is the Saudi Arabian Dinar. I believe it is backed 100% by gold.

  2. The Canadian Dollar

  3. None is fully backed by gold. However, The Swiss Franc has the highest value-to-gold ratio. As of April 1999, gold forms 38.3 per cent of the reserves of the Swiss National Bank (SNB).

  4. none that i know of.

  5. none, but if you're looking for the best "safe haven" currency right now, it's probably the Swiss Franc (CHF). otherwise i'd hold gold itself.

  6. NONE

  7. None.  Lots of people think that Swiss francs ( an excellent currency) or other currencies are still backed by gold, but no major currency has been backed by gold since 1971, when Richard "I am not a crook" Nixon reneged on the Bretton Woods agreement.

There may or may not be gold in Fort Knox, but that doesn't mean they will let you trade your dollars for it.
