  1. Imagine -9 and 9 on a number line.  They are both 9 whole numbers away from zero.  Just think that absolute value is the number's distance from zero, which is always positive.


  2. It would equal 9.

    Absolute values make everything positive. Simply take out the negative and you have your answer.
