Someone recently did a hit and run on my car when in was parked in the parking lot. I want to install cameras all around the car (hidden of course) and have them always recording to a hard drive, and have it automatically erase the info once a week or something like that if I don't need it. That way if someone does something to my car, I will have it on tape. I have a sports car and people seem to enjoy messing with it. And I have an installer, so that won't be a problem, but like what supplies and all do I need?

  1. you need to go to radio shack and have a talk with one of those guys about their security systems- home and car

  2. Isn't that a little much? I mean thats gonna cost a lot of money and a take a lot of time. Where are the cameras gonna be placed? How are you power all those camera's? I mean i have a sports car and people mess it up too, but insurance is there for that reason. If you really wanna go and get camera's done though, i think one in the back and one the front would suffice. You could have them recording to a mini computer or something, but i'm not sure how you would go about installing that and powering it up.

Also, a few problems with doing this, if the car has no license plates on, it won't help you out. Getting a camera that will be good enough to capture a license plate is gonna cost a lot of money...

you can check this site out though for ideas maybe:

  3. Ebay has a Hard Drive recorder that will work on 12 volts for about $250, (its small and will fit in trunk or under seat no prob).  Just type in hard driver recorder 12 volt and several will come up.  If its on 24/7 you may need a separate battery in the trunk wired to a battery isolator so as not to run you starting battery to 0, the mic and cameras on ebay for about $25-40 each.  Get CCD cameras "Hidden pinhole Cameras" as they work much better in Low Light and can be hidden easily.

    Parts Needed

    Video Recorder - 250

    spare 12v battery w/ isolator - 125

    4 cameras - 35x 4 - 140

    Mic for audio - 25

    Labor - 250  (+,-100)

Less then 800 and project Done

(did this same setup on several cars)
