I'm going into 8th grade and we have to tryout for our highschool's football team at the end of the semester. And I plan to try out for Qb, WR, Linebacker, and a Tight-end. I really just want to be linebacker or WR, but I would also like to be a tight-end and QB. Should I even try to do it or what should I do to do like exercises that would make me able to do all of them.

  1. work out! steroids or energy drinks

  2. The truth is, a linebacker isnt built like a WR. You cant do the same exercises a linebacker does and expect to be an agile runner. You have to pick a position and stick with it. Its hard to say what position you should be, because i dont know how big you are, but if you want to be a runner, focus on running/catching the ball, not tackling a hefty QB.

  3. sounds like u want to be the team.

  4. haha d**n if you can throw a football 75 yards as an 8th grader you should be getting recruited by colleges already ahaha so im gunna have to call bs on that one...haha so try to be an offensive lineman you sound big or you could be making that up too but go for tackle or something like that

  5. What position have you played in tackle football previously?  If you've been playing organized tackle football all along, ask your most recent coach what position he recommends, and ask for an appropriate workout.  Most youth football coaches are happy to assist their players in making the HS squad.  If he's willing, ask him for a letter of introduction to the HS coach, highlighting his evaluation of your talents and some of your accomplishments.

If you haven't played before, then you're in for a surprise.  Your HS coach will probably run you through a series of drills throughout the tryouts and then tell you what position you'll be playing.  They may never even ask you what position you want to try out for.  Or they may only allow you to try out for back or lineman, or they may only allow you to tryout for one position.  Every team is different, and a lot depends on the local youth football situation and the number of students attending the HS.

Backs have to be fast, while linemen have to be strong.  It's very hard to get prepared for both sets of skills, but you might want to emphasize your speed.  Run plenty of wind sprints and make sure you can also run at least a mile, as it seems a mile run on the first day of practice is a common test of physical readiness.
