  1. I know here in Ohio they recommend that you major in Wildlife Management, Fisheries Management, Fish and Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Law Enforcement, or another related major.  Although this is specific to the state of Ohio, in general most states require similar degrees (and/or a degree in this field will help you score better to actually get the job since you will have a background in the general area).  Good luck!

  2. It depends on where you want to live when you are a Conservation officer. You may not need a degree, but it never hurts and you will need it for advancement. Some states put you through a rigorous training lasting several months. You will be a Peace Officer as well as a Wildlife Conservationist. You will be dealing with animals, some trapped, shot or injured as well as the most dangerous animal of all, humans. It  will be a great experience, but the burnout level is rather high. You may  lose your love of your fellow man. Recommended courses include natural resource sciences, biology, environmental science, criminal justice, sociology and all types of communication arts.  Military experience can result in additional civil service test points that may be beneficial. You have to be physically fit. You may also need to shoot, snowmobile, maneuver a boat, track prey (two and four legged) become a detective, write reports and testify in court. It's more than a job, it's a commitment and a lifestyle. Good luck.
