Ok so this coming saturday we are going to the snow. I was able to make a purchase online for snow boots for us, but as snow bibs, and goggles are these really necessary. Because if so I need to find a place that will overnight ship fast. Unless you have any recs in California for stores. Its our first time going to the snow. And I just want to know how to dress and what I really need and cant do without I figured the shows was one of them. BTW I got a snow jacket for us. Thanks alot

  1. Sun screen, eye wear, warm gloves, a complete change of clothes for both of you, a couple of towels, warm socks, long under wear, warm hats.  Wear jeans, and a sweater for each of you, take spare turtlenecks, also money will be needed. Pack your own lunches and beverages, the area food is expensive.  Since this is a day trip, be prepared to get wet, from being in the snow. Do not over dress the youngster, allow that they have a higher body temperature and will generate heat quickly. Drink lots of water. When you are done playing or whatever, change to dry clothes for the trip home.

  2. You absolutely need some sort of high protection goggles or sunglasses. The snow acts as a mirror to the sun and will quickly snowblind or your burn you and your child's eyes and skin. Keep in mind you're going to be up at a high elevation, and thus closer to the sun. You need the highest form of sunblock you can get. Check the weather of the area you're going to and prepare for both sunny spring like days and blizzard conditions. Weather in the mountains can change within hours. Snow pants and boots are crucial to stay dry, and gloves will protect the little one's fingers when they are playing with the snow. You can purchase anything you don't have when you get to where you are going. Also, in the mountain town I live in, we have a thrift shop that has tons of baby stuff so you're likely to be able to pick up whatever you need for only dollars. Also make sure your child stays hydrated. Elevation sickness is common in children and can make a trip extremely scary and miserable. Children's altitude pills might be an essential to bring as well.

  3. Goggles are a must have to protect your eyes not only from the bright sun reflecting off the snow (causing one to be snow blind ) as is the snowy blustery winds that you might encounter, which can hinder your vision and this can be a safety issue.

Snow bibs is another must, not only does the bibs protect you from the extreme cold, they are made of waterproof material that will help to keep you and your 3 year old drier.

  4. If your daughter/son likes speed (gets tired and decides to go straight down) GET GOGGLES! especially if it snows/hails (even worst) the wind and snow or ice will whip your eyes and it is NOT fun at all. You should get her something that's quick dry and thin for a thermos. Put like a shirt on top. same thing for her legs. Aim for Warm and dry. she/he'll be very comfortable. If you want a full set get under armor for a thermo and get a regular shirt on top. the thermo will make body heat and the shirt will trap it. then if your in someplace very cold (like vermont) then wear another jacket (if you feel like it) and then I wear a double jacket witha zip in/out lining. For pants i would wear a thermo pants that would do the same thing as I said b4. and another pants on top to trap the body heat. Then Snow pants so that she/he will stay dry. For gloves wear double gloves (gloves with a lining inside) and maybe even throw in a heat warmer (about a dollar for 2). for socks DO NOT USE COTTON!!!!!!!!!! her/his feet will sweat and cotton will soak up that sweat like a sponge! damp socks will eventually become very cold. get Nylon socks so that if her feet sweat then it will dry quickly (reduces friction also warning: it may annoy your child's toes >:O) Wear wool socks on top of those nylon socks. and again, if you feel like it throw in a heat warmer. hope this helps :D

  5. Warm clothes, gloves, rubber boots or insulated boots, socks, cap or hat and jacket. Extra set of clothes if this set gets wet.  Something for the child to slide on such as a sled  with a rope to pull back up the hill.  Kids love the snow and will slide for hours. Also, pack food and drinks and water.  They get really tired and hungry.  And maybe a blanket in the car for the ride home.
