What would I need to do to start my own country?

I would want to purchase land from the Bahamas and establish my own country with a constitution to be recognised by the United Nations.

  1. You need to find or create some tiny dot that projects out of the sea, far enough from other claimed dots that you can claim it as a sovereign state.

  3. Lawyers, guns and money.  Use them in the reverse order I listed it.

  4. Keep dreamin pal! That will never happen unless you have gagillions of dollars.

  5. I don't know if any company would allow you to take their land and create a foreign nation.  The Philippines has over 7,000 islands, many of which are uninhabited.  You can buy an island, but you cannot make your own country out of the island.

    Otherwise, if countries allowed that to happen, foreign nations could buy foreign lands and annex them without war.

    You would have better luck staking a claim in Antarctica or on another planet.  That, or you'd have to win a presidential election, and then put the country in martial law and start a dictatorship.
