What would I need to throw a great luau??

Throwing a big luau party in August. Any advice on food, decorations, or other tips?

Go to the party shop and Michale's,  Get colorful cups and plates, Buy the Grass skirts and put them around the table, put a colorful cloth on first, use double sided Velcro.  Buy those big coolers that construction people use and put all of your beverages in them so people can serve themselves. There is a ton of things you can do. buy party bags and gives out gifts for best, outfit! 1,2,and 3rd place.  Choose easy to make foods, but make sure its stuff you know your friends will eat, and plan for a few possible vegetarians.

    Captains Morgans spiced rum and flowers, grill fresh green veggies and ice down the shrimp and use good plastic plates and ware and party hardy....keep it simple or go hog wild.....may the party god be with ya......

  3. u should get punch and pineapple and stuff for food and if there arent that many ppl u can find everyones hawiian names my neighbor had a hawiian birthday party and found everybodies hawiian name and  it was great

    Ham and Pineapple Pinwheels

    INGREDIENTS:

    1 (8 ounce) package whipped

    pineapple cream cheese

    1 1/2 cups crushed pineapple

    in juice, well drained 6 (8 inch) flour tortillas

    6 ounces sliced fully cooked

    deli ham

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. Mix the cream cheese and pineapple in a bowl until evenly blended. Place the tortillas on a clean work surface. Spread 2/3 of each tortilla with the cream cheese mixture. Place a slice of ham over the cream cheese. Roll up each tortilla towards its uncovered edge. If needed, seal the edge with a dollop of cream cheese. Wrap each tortilla roll in plastic wrap, sealing tightly. Refrigerate at least 2 hours. Unwrap, and cut into 1/2 inch wide pieces.

    Bacon Wrapped Pineapple

    INGREDIENTS:

    1/2 pound sliced bacon, cut

    into thirds

    1 (20 ounce) can pineapple

    chunks in juice, drained 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

    1/2 cup mayonnaise

    1/4 cup chili sauce

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

    2. Wrap each chunk of pineapple with a piece of bacon and secure with toothpicks. Place in a shallow baking dish. In a small bowl, stir together the brown sugar, mayonnaise and chili sauce; pour over the bacon wrapped pineapple.

    3. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until bacon is crispy on the edges and the sauce is bubbly. Serve warm.

    World's Best Cream Cheese and Pineapple Dip

    INGREDIENTS:

    1 (8 ounce) package cream

    cheese, softened

    2 cups crushed pineapple,

    drained with juice reserved 1 teaspoon onion powder

    2 cloves garlic, peeled and

    crushed

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. In a medium bowl, mix together cream cheese, crushed pineapple, onion powder and garlic. Mix in reserved juice from pineapple as desired. Chill in the refrigerator until serving.

    Ham and Pineapple Kabobs

    INGREDIENTS:

    3 tablespoons brown sugar

    2 tablespoons distilled white

    vinegar

    1 tablespoon vegetable oil

    1 teaspoon prepared mustard 3/4 pound cooked ham, cut into

    1 inch cubes

    1 (15 ounce) can pineapple

    chunks, drained

    skewers

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. Preheat grill for high heat.

    2. In a medium bowl, mix together brown sugar, vinegar, vegetable oil, and mustard. Thread ham and pineapple chunks alternately onto skewers.

    3. Lightly oil grill grate. Place skewers on the prepared grill, and brush liberally with the brown sugar mixture. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, turning frequently and basting often. Serve when heated through and richly glazed.

    Shrimp Lollipops with Pineapple Chili Dipping Sauce

    INGREDIENTS:

    For the Lollipops

    8 Callisons Ginger Mango

    Seasoned Skewers (appetizer

    size)

    8 ounces raw shrimp meat

    1 tablespoon minced fresh

    ginger root

    1 teaspoon minced garlic

    1 tablespoon chopped fresh

    cilantro 2 teaspoons soy sauce

    1 egg white

    1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch

    Pineapple Chili Dipping Sauce

    1/3 cup finely chopped fresh

    pineapple

    1/3 cup Asian sweet chili sauce

    Chopped fresh cilantro, for

    garnish

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. In a food processor fitted with a steel blade, add the shrimp meat, ginger, garlic, cilantro and soy sauce. In a small bowl, combine egg white and corn starch and whisk until frothy then add to the shrimp mixture. Pulse until chopped well. Cover and refrigerate mixture for 30 minutes.

    2. Meanwhile, make the Pineapple Chili Dipping Sauce; in a small bowl, combine chopped pineapple and chili sauce. Set aside.

    3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

    4. To form and serve lollipops: for each skewer, form about 1 1/2 tablespoons of chilled shrimp mixture around the tip of each skewer forming a slightly oval shape. Place onto a lightly oiled baking sheet with sides not touching. Bake in preheated oven for about 10 to 12 minutes or until cooked through.

    5. Serve lollipops with the dipping sauce and garnish with chopped cilantro.

    Pineapple Cheese Ball

    INGREDIENTS:

    2 (8 ounce) packages cream

    cheese, softened

    1 cup minced celery

    1/2 cup chopped green bell

    pepper 1 teaspoon minced onion

    1 (20 ounce) can crushed

    pineapple, drained

    1 cup chopped pecans

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, celery, bell pepper, onion, and crushed pineapple. Divide the mixture in half and form two balls out of the mixture. Roll each ball in the pecans. Chill until ready to serve.

    Food ...I would do some bbq pork sandwiches and some sausage on the grill or if you have the money have a bbq store smoke a full size pig for you...but these can run in the hundreds price-wise, but it does feed alot.

    Veggies and dip, fruit salad or fruit with dip and or chocalate.  BBQ beans, cold pasta salad. Pita chips with a light french onion dip. Seaweed salad.  Taco layer dip with tortiala chips. Anel  food cake topped with peaches or other fruit.

    Drinks....Fruity Sangria, Punch with a rum, Beer, Sodas, Water, Juice boxes for little ones.

    11 ounces (310 grams) small shell-shaped pasta

    3 cloves garlic

    9 ounces (225 grams) yellow cherry tomatoes

    9 ounces (225 grams) red cherry tomatoes

    1/2 cucumber

    1 handful black olives, pitted

    2 tablespoons fresh chives

    I handful fresh basil

    7 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

    4 tablespoons white wine vinegar

    Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

    Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil, add the pasta and garlic, and simmer for about 5 minutes or until al dente, and drain.

    Put the garlic to one side for the dressing. Put the pasta in a bowl.

    Cut the tomatoes, cucumber, and black olives into small pieces, about half the size of the pasta, and place in the round metal container. Roughly chop the herbs and place these in the container.

    Using a fork mash the cooked garlic cloves on the board with a little salt, add to the salad.

    Add the oil, vinegar, and seasoning.

    Make sure you send out luau themed invites and ask guest to dress in hawaiain shirts/dresses..etc.

    Have fun...these are usually a favorite party for people to go to.
