What would I study/major in, if i eventually want to go into Clinical Immunology?

I want to go into clinical immunology, and specialize in type 1 diabetes, but i dont know what i would major in ,in college, i have got responses such as premed, biology, and research? but if there any others or the "correct " major, please let me know. Thanks

  1. Pre-med and research are not majors.  Pre-med is a course sequence you take if you want to go to medical school.  Medical school teaches you to practice medicine, not to do research.  If you want to be a researcher, you want to get a PhD instead - that's a research degree.  Look up PhD programs in Clinical Immunology to see what they expect you to have taken in college.  You'll probably want to major in bio or biochem.


  2. Biology is the only thing you listed that's actually a major.  And that's the correct answer.  A minor in chemistry would also be a good idea.  After getting your B.S. you may want to look into getting your MD/Ph.D (I don't mean both, that's an actual degree) rather than just a Ph.D.
