What would WWIII start if Russia invaded Germany

My friends Brother-in-law lives on the Army base in Germany. The Brother-in-laws wife which is my friend's sister is coming home, because Russia could invade Germany If they do invade Germany does that mean WWIII will start cause thats what my friend said?

Well, firstly, I think your in law should relax... the Russians are not at the gates for all I know (and I live in Germany as well).

Secondly, the attack of one NATO member is considered an attack on all members, so yes, that would set off WWIII. But think about - it's exremely unlikely. The Russians are not that stupid. And we're on good terms anyway these days.

Russia already controls most of the pipelines that sends oil to Europe, so they could just starve Europe to death of energy. Wouldn't even need to invade.

Why would russia invade germany? Because of the georgia issue?

I don't think so.

The EU countries combined have double as much troops as the USA, and there is always the NATO countries in europe, russia can't  perform a succesful invasion of germany. Partly because they don't border with germany and partly because their military is weak compared to the europeans.

And really there is no reason to, its like saying mexico will invade the USA.

Yes a Russian invasion of Germany would enact the NATO military alliance in which an attack on one member would be deemed an attack on them all.  So within moments of the Russian invasion, Russia in a sense would have Declared War on all nations in NATO including:

USA

UK

France

Iceland

Portugal

Germany

Canada

Italy

Norway

Denmark

Greece

Turkey

Belgium

Netherlands

Luxembourg

These were the original members for the most part, but this list has grown to 26 nations total.

This attack would guarentee a World War as a majority of the Worlds major nations would be involved and I am sure great destruction would encompass the attack.

Russia really doesnt have much of a military, ships rusting in port, armor rusting away, no discipline, planes without spare parts etc.

they would have to invade Germany by 1. paratroopers 2. by sea or 3. by taking of what is in front of Germany

If Russia invaded Germany it would have to go through the might country of Poland! There they would be devastated. Just kidding. Of course this would start WWIII.

One thing though it would not happen and isn't going to happen.
