  1. Guess it depends on their tone of voice and who it is.  If it's a friend who just talks like that all the time, I wouldn't think twice about it.  If it were said rudely, I probably would ask what was going on.... were they having a bad day, did something happen, etc.  You just never know, they might be having a crisis at the moment of the call.   If it happened on a regular basis (in a truly rude manner, not a funny or silly one), then I wouldn't say anything, I just wouldn't call them any more.  I'd wait for them to take the initiative to call me.  If they asked what was wrong, I'd tell them I thought I was bothering them since they seemed upset every time I called.

Stuff like that doesn't really bother me though -- so long as it's said in jest and not really meant to be rude or offensive.  Some people just have a gruff way of talking and others don't see it for the humor or light heartedness it's meant to be.    If a friend asked me that, and I knew it wasn't because they were having a problem at the time, I'd probably say, "Hey, I really want a million dollars."  As a matter of fact, I'd probably come up with a new "want" to answer every time they asked the question.  Make it a running joke between friends.

  2. I would probably not call for awhile.  Most people have caller ID now so chances are they would know that it was me calling.  It would depend on the tone of their voice and how the rest of the conversation was going.  Sometimes people are just in a bad mood.  If it happened frequently I would not call again(more than 3 times in a row).

  3. It probably means that your either bugging them or they know its you that is calling. Lay off on the phone calls a bit.

  4. I would reply, "hey, who taught you to answer the phone like that?"

  5. I'd ask them why they say that every time. Sometimes being blunt is the best way to go.

  6. stop calling them

  7. Hey, gold digga!  I think I'd just stop calling. Then next time they called me, I'd answer the same way they used to.

  8. act polite, but never call back again

  9. Think up a witty response to the question.  First time, I'd say "10 million dollars."  Second time, maybe I'd say "I'd like a cookie."

It isn't really correct phone etiquette though.  Just say "hello?"

  10. Heck, I'd break into a big long list of all the things I have ever wanted whether it's part of what you called about or not.  New shoes that feel good immediately.  Lots of money.  Unconditional friendships.  Pets that could do the housework while I'm gone.  Caviar at least once a month.  An elf (sort of like the house elves in Harry Potter, except nicer and cuter).  Magic would be useful.  Etc.  Hey, they asked!
