Question:

What would a Formula 1 car look and drive like now if there had never been any rules on their development?

Rules on the design of the cars. I said nothing of the rules of the racing itself.....

Two seperate things.

Maybe a freeze on the rules as they were in 1970 or 1935 say if that were to make you happier with the question?

  1. hmmm no rules take your pick that could mean no wheels, no requirement to go around a track, no requirement to even win. Sorry but the question actually dont make sense

  2. haha like an alien spaceship... the mechanics can build the car from scratch over night... they'd be doing speeds of like 400mph if it weren't for all the f.i.a restrictions

  3. It would look like they had in Fangios day and struggle pretty hard. and it wouldn't be very competitive and safe.

  4. Like the Tardis..........

  5. They seem to be getting slower every year...Maybe Next Year They'll Just Race Go Karts

  6. They would probably be using the "ground effect" to generate a low pressure area below the car, the car's bottom would be shaped for that effect

Front wing would be lower than it is

Both front and rear wing would be flexible

    Tires low profile tires perhaps.

And the funny thing is it would look so much more cool or beautiful.

Current cars looks like c**p. The sharkfin that redbull, renault and now ferrari are using above the engine cover looks horrible

and all the stupid bits and pieces around the car is ugly

  7. I think they would have just turned them into airplanes and they would fly around the track.

  8. They would be ground effect, twin turbos with big turbines on the track and probably would be a lot cleaner in design as they wouldn't need all the little winglets which at the moment basically just redirect the air over a couple of wings which are regulated.  The front and rear wings could be quite different.

We could even see cars with double wheels like the 6 wheeled Williams which never raced due to the rules being changed to say you could only have 4 wheels.

  9. I read somewhere around 6,5Gs in the corners and lots more on the brakes (they do 5 on occasion as it is anyway) and 400Km/h down the usual straights.

Certainly beyond human tolerance and of course, ability.

  10. i think they would not be cars any more they might be flying motorbikes or the drivers would have to drive rockets around a track!!!!!!!!!!         =]             lol

  11. i dunno, maybe a pimped out car with hydraulics lol. Seriously tho, I would say a rocket car with two rockets at the end of car propelling rocket fuel. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. would be quite expensive...

  12. as far as appearance they would sit a bit lower and wider, under braking flaps on the body would open up like the speed brakes on an air plane as well as the wings tilting to full vertical, and the wheels would tilt on variable axis to maximize contact patch, the biggest differences would be under the body, traction and launch control, new engines every other week, variable ballast at the drives touch,

oh and some good tobacco sponsorship

  13. we may have daily 1 driver killed cars having v16 engines.....roaring past 450kmh at monza.......what else........thats what u cn expect and it would be best formula to kill formula 1.......as there are no rules.......we may see....nitrious oxide.....and we may also see...crashed drivers joining race midway in spare cars.............best of all cars trying to unllap themselves......drivers cutting corners with no penalties......using any fuel......supercharged cars.......TC will be back sure......any tires.......small rockets to boost straightline speeds.........or we may even see drivers pressing a button(not jenson) and flying upon another driver to over take...........many other things............but am feeling not as gr8 to describe them and wont like something like tht to happen either........

  14. I suspect they would be capable of 300 mph on the straights, accelerate to 100 in 2 secs and would go round corners as if on rails. They would have every conceivable technical advantage and all the driver would do is turn the steering wheel and the car would do everything else automatically through visionary devices.
