Well you just need a small little virus, like AIDS that spreads rapidly across the world and kills only after a longer time (otherwise the virus will die out..)

However, you will not reach every remote island this way!

More likely is a comet, magnetic field change, huge vulcanic eruption in yellowstone park (see below) to get us really extinct.

Other than self extinction because of our ability to make weapons of mass destruction and our stupidity allow these weapons to be used, there are several possibilities for the extinction of humanity by another species.

The species would most likely be a microbe like a virus or bacteria.  These tend to change over time more rapidly than other species.  Rapid mutation would make them harder to identify and counteract.  (Think about the yearly changes in the flu virus).

It would require an extremely high mortality rate for infected humans, but may be non-deadly to other species.  This would allow for a vector (or multiple vectors) to spread the disease rapidly.  Fish or other marine life as vectors would allow the species to reach even the most remote islands.  An air-borne spore could use wind as a vector.

Some might add that a long incubation time and moderate time period to kill infected humans might be a plus.  This would allow for the spread of the disease by humans as well.

A tolerance to salt concentration and antibiotics would also be a great plus.

Exactly what the're doing today,  They are on the right road for extinction.  It's called self-destruct, and it's happening right now. Your young inexperienced eyes can't see it, But we old-timers, all of us can.
