I am a high school track runner and sectionals is coming up nest week. I am 6 seconds away from state in the 800 and 1 second away in the 400. Which race should i choose to run because i have to run the 4X400 also? i noticed i run about 2 seconds slower if i run the 800 before the 400. but the 400 is a closer race to the 4x400. I am so confused! which race would be my best shot for state?

  1. Run the 400 because getting 1 second faster on it is easier than getting 6 seconds faster in the 800. Recovering from the 800 takes longer than it does for a 400. So just do the 400.

  2. do the mile!!!!!!!!!

  3. If I were you I would stick with the 400.  I used to run the 800 and I have to say, it is much more difficult to find a steady pace  and you're much more apt to be either running too fast in the first lap and gassed in the second; or, making up for lost time  in the second lap if you pace yourself too slow the first lap.  The 400 is much more about pushing yourself around as hard you can for one lap--as you know--and it should be easy for you to get that extra second if you load up with carbs and just run balls to the wall.  That's what seems to be the best bet to me.

  4. i would stick w/the 400 b/c if u have a better time 4 the 400 then you might place 1st or 2nd

  5. if i were in your position, i would run the 400. you have alot better of a shot to decrease your time by a second rather than 6 seconds. in one 400 meter race, i ran a 68 and the next race i ran a 65. you are more likely to do that in a 400 than an 800.

the 400 and 4x4 are long enough apart where your body should have plenty of time to recooperate. it's also going to be easier for your body to recooperate from a 400 than an 800.

    good luck at states!!! =)
