  1. Energy drink. Mountain boards are harder to sell i think.

  2. if you really want to start a business you better pick the product / service that makes you happy cause work sucks if you don't love what you do.

  3. It depends on a lot of factors.  Start Up Costs & Capital (physical location, manufacturing facilities, storage facilities, manufacturing equipment, capital stock, research and development, business license and fees, etc.....);  this would determine which would be cheaper.

The cheaper of the two will probably be the easier of the two as well, because funding will have to be secured.  This is not taking into account government restrictions in the beverage industry: or that the products will have to be distributed somehow.

  4. Mountain boards.Start by making one-off custom boards and approach independant retailers about stocking them on sale or return. Go to competitions and tout them to your fav riders for free, but make sure your logo is well displayed on the 'board!

  5. Hire a consultant and make him/her do you a project analysis... that's what they're for!!

  6. Im guessing that it may be cheaper to start with an energy drink company.

  7. can you make either?

  8. I think Donna nailed it.  Getting started in anything that might involve the FDA is going to be VERY difficult.  Though you wouldn't have to get FDA "approval" on your energy drink, there are PILES of red tape that has to be dealt with in the food production/distribution business.

I think there is still a growing market for mountain boards.  If you know that you can produce a quality product that has something other current builders don't, get your board out there like Donna said and make a name for yourself.  You'll need to impress the right people to secure some funding to go big-time, unless you're Mr Moneybags already:~)

Good luck on any endeavor you choose.  I got mad props for any entrepreneur who's willing to stick their neck out there!
