What would be a fair way to figure out who sleeps where?

I'm going to be a freshman in college and I'm moving in on Friday. My roommate and I decided it would be best if we choose which bed we take before then so that we can start setting our stuff up before both of us get there. Neither of us have any special needs when it comes to which bed we get, however, we both agree that the bed near the window (rather than the bed near the door) would be preferable. How can we choose beforehand fairly?

This drives my wife crazy, but when I come to  a moment of indecision or a difficult choice that has no logic to guide it, I simply flip a coin.  You could do that over a web cam meeting or wait until the day you first see each other.

Flip a coin, if your roommate doesn't think that reasonable, then simply ask if he/she wants it.

If you in fact do want it then simply ask if the other person minds if you have it.

Otherwise play a simple game for it, it'll be a good chance for you and your roommate to socialize and it'll determine who gets which bed.

Tell him/her to pick a number between 1 and 10, when he does .. simply tell him/her it was wrong and then take the bed that you want. Might as well break the new roomie in right..... or.. flip a coin.

Or agree to swap every quarter.

You need some type of contest or game, and the winner gets the bed of choice ( maybe neither will have a window ..or both ! )

I would simply say whoever gets there first gets the bed they want OR if you guys are close friends just share one week you sleep in the bed near the window the next week they do etc etc.

Rock paper scissors. It's always a winner. You could do it if you have a webcam or skype or something similar.

Whoever comes up with a higher or lower number. If you have a webcam you can write them  at the same time and reveal them at the same time.

I would ASK her how if the flip of a coin seems fair   You can offer it to her  to keep the peace, and the start of an amorous relationship.  You will be blessed if you sacrifice, and nothing would be worse than having resenting each other over it.  It will be far more important to get along in close quarters, then look out the window.  If you don't feel comfortable offering it or feel it would make you bitter, then flip a coin.
