What would be a fun Open Source OS to play with?

I have been thinking of looking at an open source OS to increase my understanding and maybe be of some use. Linux is big, monolithic and looks hard to get into, besides which it is now rather mainstream.

Haiku: http://www.haiku-os.org/documents

Dragonfly BSD: http://www.dragonflybsd.org/index.shtml

Minix 3: http://www.minix3.org/

Which of these (or others) would you think would be interesting?

  1. Linux of course! Below is the site to get any fre distro ( distribution ) you  might like.I have them all and they are free open source  o/s One and all. eNjOy~

  2. if you dont know much about linux start with Ubuntu, Fedora, or OpenSuse.

    http://fedoraproject.org/

    http://software.opensuse.org/

  3. Probably the easiest to get started with and most fun is Ubuntu.  It's a great introduction to linux and unix in general.

Linux is basically a (well established) offshoot of Minix.  BSD is yet anther unix variant.

Go with Linux.  It may be "big" but it isn't hard to get into if you start with something like Mandriva or Ubuntu.
